How You Can Celebrate Earth Day

Understand more about climate change (Greenhouse gases-polar regions are reacting quickly, fossil fuel emissions, and volcanic eruptions)…

According to a NASA scientist, by the time that we get to the next century, it is estimated that the polar temperature could be as much as 20-25 degrees Fahrenheit on average higher than it is today. Water will disintegrate from polar ice caps into the oceans, raising water temperatures and releasing more water into the atmosphere. More water in the atmosphere will lead to greater storms, such as Hurricane Sandy.

El Nino- Off Peru, there is usually a lot of phytoplankton which makes a productive fishery with sardines and anchovies. Every few years, the fishermen noticed that the fish disappeared around Christmas time and named the phenomenon “El Nino de Navidad.” Ocean currents are driven by the winds. The ocean takes heat and moves it toward the poles to moderate our climate.

Read about policy decisions: Clean Air Act: Obama wants to issue decisions related to air pollution, smog, and planet-warming carbon dioxide.

Understand how you can impact the Earth on an individual basis: turn off water when not in use, turn off lights when not in use, conserve water when taking a shower or brushing your teeth, use less plastic water bottles, use less paper, do not litter, recycle, use environmentally friendly cleaning products, donate used items instead of getting rid of them, use less public transportation, etc.
